Captain's Training

Entry-level mariners will be taught USCG regulation as it applies to passenger vessels, boat maintenance and inspection, skills for underway and harbor operations, marine safety and rescue, and most importantly, the unwritten responsibilities of this leadership role.

Science and History

SEA-Guides champion the motto, "We don't train captains. We train guides to operate any boat". Every Monday through the 2025 season, SEA-Guide Apprentices will join local experts on guided excursions to learn advanced science about the following aspects of Alaska

The Art of Guiding

Knowing the facts makes you a great guide. Knowing how to use those facts makes you a SEA-Guide. SEA-Guides are trained on the psychology and methods of guiding which best support their own personal style.

To help mitigate the schedule strains of full-time apprentices, the training schedule for SEAG participants is planned during lulls of normal tour operations. SEA-Guides are required to attend Monday training sessions from 9:00 AM- 2:00 PM beginning May 8th, 2023 ending September 4th, 2023. Additionally, Captain candidates will attend a one-week (40-hours) intensive training course beginning April 8th-April 10th and resuming April 13th-April 15th.
